HISTORY OF BSPN
The establishment of the Black School Psychologists Network (BSPN) in 2022 marked a significant milestone and the representation of Black professionals in school psychology. Driven by the visionary leadership of Dr. Byron McClure, the journey toward creating a supportive community for Black school psychologists began.
It all started with a social media post shared by Dr. McClure in early 2022. The response to the post was overwhelming, with many expressing their interest and support for such a community. Encouraged by the positive reception, Dr. McClure organized the first meeting of the dream team on February 28, 2022.
Five passionate and dedicated Black school psychologists, who shared the same belief in the vision, attended the session. On May 9, 2022, the Black School Psychologists Network (BSPN) was officially established. Driven by the collective efforts of the founding members, which later became a 501(c)3 organization on December 2022.
The momentum and impact of BSPN continued to grow, thanks to the invaluable support and active participation of numerous individuals and organizations.
On April 27th-28th, 2023, history was made in Atlanta, Georgia, with the inaugural Black School Psych Summit. As the journey of the Black School Psychologists Network continues, it remains committed to its founding principles and the betterment of Black School Psychologists and graduate students nationwide.
